Although I never had any formal art training, I have
always had an interest
in drawing and painting. I did take a high school art course and
my teacher encouraged me to pursue an art career, but that was not to be.
Over the years I did several drawings and paintings, and now looking back
at the early ones that I thought were so good, they really weren't.
I paint in oil and watercolor, I prefer oil. My
paintings have been purchased by people from several states around the
country, and I have won several awards in art competition including first
place master division at the Killington Carving and Wildlife Art
Expo in Killington VT in 1997.
Since 1995 my main interest has shifted to
sculpture and most of my time is consumed with woodcarving. Although
my work is for sale I do not promote or display carvings except at the
carving shows that I attend around New England. In the time that
I have been competing I have won several best of show awards at carving
shows and I have also won some best of show awards at fine art shows in
competition against other sculptors painters, photographers etc...
I have entered and shown at some of the best
juried art shows around the country. I am proud to say that my work has
been accepted at some shows where as many as 90 other artists were rejected.
I had the honor to show at one of the best wildlife art shows in the country
along side some of the best wildlife artists in the country, if not the
world. I shared billing on the program with Robert Bateman and Carl
Brenders at the prestigious
Art and The Animal Kingdom Show
at Bennington Center for the Arts in Bennington VT. I have also shown
at Art On The Mountain in Wilmington VT, Art
Show at The Dog Show in Wichita KS.
The American Academy
of Equine Art in Lexington KY, The First Church Show
at Springfield MA, and woodcarving shows in Wells ME., Cromwell CT, Bedford
MA, Mystic CT, Topsfield MA, and the International Woodcarvers Congress
in
Davenport, Iowa. |
